A woman accused of purse snatching pleaded guilty to several charges on Monday. Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Lee Jones was arrested in May after she crashed her car at the on-ramp of I-64 off Chesapeake Boulevard.
In court, prosecutor Christina Brady said Jones stole a purse from Jeanette Balazsi at a grocery store in the Bromley Shopping Center. Balazsi chased Jones to her car and stood in front of the vehicle to stop Jones from fleeing. Balazsi was then forced to jump onto the hood when Jones started driving down North Military Highway. Eventually Balazsi was able to jump off when Jones slowed down while driving through a neighborhood, Brady said. Jones hit several vehicles after leaving Balazsi and at one point drove the wrong way down a one-way street.
Jones pleaded guilty to attempted malicious wounding, eluding police and petty larceny. Jones stood trial on a drunken driving charge Monday. The judge has delayed the DUI verdict.
