Man convicted of fatal BUI accident

Posted by Unknown | Mar 12, 2014 | 0 Comments

A 45 year-old man has been found guilty by a jury of operating a boat while intoxicated and killing a 38 year-old passenger on board. The crash happened in 2005 on Lake Butte des Morts. According to reports, the men were on their way back home when the powerboat hit a shallow part of the lake and crashed, throwing all three passengers from the boat.

The trial focused on who was driving the boat at the time. Prosecutors claim there is physical evidence linking the 45 year-old to the driver's seat, though the defense argues the evidence is non conclusive. There were several witnesses brought in by both sides fighting to pinpoint who exactly was the driver.

In the end, the man was found guilty. The judge, however, has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation.
