Seattle area law enforcement departments have announced that they will be stepping up their traffic patrol efforts over the weekend in honor of the Night of 1,000 Stars. The Night of 1,000 Stars has been held annually for 20 years by police departments in Washington to represent the number of on-duty officers.
Officers will be focusing their efforts on stopping drivers that appear to be driving under the influence, recklessly driving or driving aggressively and drivers talking on cell phones or not wearing seat belts.
Police departments participating in the Night of 1,000 Stars include Seattle, Snowqualmie, Redmond, Newcastle, Mercer Island, Kent, Kirkland and Bellevue. In addition, members of the Washington State Patrol will take part in the effort.
