A California state senator was arrested and charged with DUI last week in Sacramento.
Republican senator Roy Ashburn, representative of Bakersfield, was pulled over by police shortly after 2:00 a.m. Wednesday after police officers observed the man driving erratically. According to officials at the Sacramento County Jail, officers administered a field sobriety test which Ashburn failed. The legislator was taken to the police station where he failed a blood-alcohol test and was booked for DUI.
Ashburn released a statement expressing his remorse, saying “I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgement… I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did.”
