Last week, a bride-to-be was leaving her bachelorette party in Washington state when she was stopped for drunken driving.
The 31-year-old woman was pulled over by Washington state police after they found her going more than 90 mph on the highway. The woman told the police officials that she was to get married later in that day.
The woman blood alcohol test was 0.146 and she admitted to cops that she has been stopped for this offense int he past. She was released to a taxi so that she could make it to her wedding.

A candidate for Seattle Municipal Court Judge, Ed McKenna, is challenging the Ethics and Elections Commission on a voter guide statement. The 20-year-prosecutor is challenging the presiding judge on a portion of his voter’s statement.
Mckenna’s made a statement to the commission that said that the people of King County deserve a better judge than one that was ranked last out of 47 judges in the area that were reviewed.
Ethic and Elections rules state the candidates running for judge can not discus each other, but McKenna is unsure how he will get the word out about his opponent and his is worried that the voters will go for the incumbent.
An attorney working for McKenna said that he does not criticize the presiding judges positions and does not say her name so he should be allowed to keep it as is.

The last two weeks of August through Labor Day weekend, police officials have beefed up the patrol on drunken driving.
There will be more law enforcement officials on streets to keep an eye out for impaired drivers in King County. This idea is part of a program called “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” and it will be the largest DUI enforcement campaign that has ever been done in the county during the summer.
Throughout the state of Washington, 172 other agencies will be participating in the campaign. According to officials, Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest holidays in Washington.

In 2008, Breathalyzer tests were thrown out in King County, Washington after problems in the toxicology labs were discovered. As of now, police officials can use a Breathalyzer tests if they suspect that a driver is drunk, but the results can not be used in the court room.
The test results were thrown out after it was found that the lab was not calibrating them correctly. Now, prosecutors are fighting to get the results of Breathalyzer tests used in court because it could effect thousands of cases a year.They believe that the new management has improved the quality of the tests.
Although not all are in favor of this idea, Eric Gaston and Ted Vosk are two of the attorneys who are assisting in this very important litigation. Theses attorney spoke about the uncertainties that breath testing can have.
Others in favor of the reinstating the Breathalyzer results are arguing to a three-judge panel and are using nine specific case examples in their argument.

The State Supreme Court ruled that a judge in King County should be suspended for being too rude while serving on the bench. The woman’s original suspension was recommended to be 90-days, but it has been reduced to five days without pay.
District Court Judge Judy Eiler was censured by the Judicial Conduct Commission after they said that her behavior in the court room was too rude. The commissioner found that the judge called people names, cut them off before they were done speaking, and did not let defendants show evidence.
The court ruled that the judge violated the judicial cannon that states that judges should show courtesy while on the bench. Three other violations cited by the commissioner were thrown out. This November, Judge Eiler has an opponent running against her, prosecutor Susan Mahoney.

Police officials will be on the water this weekend for the annual Seafair event to keep an extra eye out for people who are driving a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Multiple agencies will be joining forces in order to patrol Friday through Sunday during all the activities on Lake Washington. Proctor Landing on Mercer Landing will have a temporary 60-foot dock set up to accommodate the extra marine patrol.
Law enforcement agencies patrolling over the weekend will include Mercer Island Police and Marine Control, King County Sheriff’s Department Marine Patrol and Seattle Police and Harbor Control. Proctor Landing will also include Breathalyzers and holding cells to detain people who are arrested for alcohol-related offenses.

The New Jersey state supreme court agreed to change DUI laws for non-English speakers yesterday. The court ruled that drivers who do not speak English are required to be provided a translation of the statement of consequences related to not taking an alcohol breath test. The law does not require that drivers understand the translated statement, and if officials are unable to identify or translate a drivers language then the driver is awarded immunity.
No other state requires translation to be provided, though many do have written or spoken translations of the statement on hand. One official involved in passing the legislation stated, “I think other states are going to follow New Jersey’s lead”.

The former “Melrose Place” actress, Amy Locane-Bovenizer was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and vehicular homicide after a terrible car accident Sunday evening.
Locane-Bovenizer was driving her 2007 Chevy Tahoe when she struck the passenger side of a car turning into a driveway in a Princeton, New Jersey neighborhood. The passenger of the vehicle, 60-year old Helene Seeman, was killed in the accident. The driver, her husband 60-year old Fred Seeman, was sent via Medevac to Johnson University Hospital in critical condition.
Earlier that evening, just a few miles from the crash Locane-Bovenizer was involved in a hit-and-run. The driver of the vehicle hit by Locane-Bovenizer then followed her and says that she was swerving and running into mailboxes the whole way.
After the second accident, Somerset County police officials said that Locane-Bovenizer’s eyes were glassy and red and that she smelled of alcohol. Locane-Bovenizer’s husband is a wine expert and she admitted to having a few glasses before getting behind the wheel.
Locane-Bovenizer was arraigned Monday with bail set at $50,000. If convicted, she could face up to ten years in prison.

The DUI suspect accused of driving under the influence and crashing into another car, killing two high school seniors, plead not guilty in court today.
The tragic car accident occurred on June 9th on Interstate 5 in Tukwila and killed high school students Derek King and Nick Hodgins. Officials said that the suspect, 50-year old Alexander Peder, had a blood alcohol content level twice the legal limit at the time of the accident.
Peder was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.
Our utmost sympathies go out to the family and friends of Derek King and Nick Hodgins.

Ray McDonald, defensive lineman for the San Fransisco 49ers, was arrested this past Saturday in San Mateo County for driving under the influence. California Highway Patrol officials took McDonald to the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City, California where he was released on his own recognizance an hour and a half later.
In a public statement, McDonald said, “I just want to apologize for making this a distraction because that’s not my intent. My intent is to come out here and work hard and try to win ballgames this year”. McDonald, who will be entering his fourth season in the NFL this fall, is scheduled to appear in court on June 22nd.
