Drunk Driver Rams Patrol Car, Charged With DUI

Posted by William Kirk, Partner | May 09, 2014 | 0 Comments

In a bizarre drunk driving incident in Lakewood, a drunk driver allegedly purposefully rammed a Washington State Patrol vehicle twice on the highway before being stopped and arrested for drunk driving and vehicular assault, reports KIRO TV.

The state patrol officer was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 this Wednesday afternoon. A speeding car traveling 90 mph suddenly appeared behind the patrol car. The officer says the other driver made some gestures and then rammed the patrol vehicle from behind. The trooper then moved his vehicle to the next lane and the other driver pulled right next to the officer.

The driver allegedly looked right at the officer and then proceeded to ram into the side of the patrol vehicle.

Like a scene from a movie, the patrol officer then utilized a PIT maneuver and stopped the other vehicle. An unidentified 30-year-old man was behind the wheels of the car. When questioned, the driver admitted that he knew he was striking a patrol officer; however, he stated that he only hit the police vehicle because he wanted to alert the officer to two individuals fighting in the backseat of the patrol car. The officer was alone at the time.

The driver was taken to Pierce County Jail and charged with DUI, driving without a license, and vehicular assault.
