A suspected drunken driver crashed into a bus shelter in Columbia City causing him to suffer life threatening injuries.

According to police, the driver of a Ford Explorer was speeding when he lost control of the SUV and went up on the sidewalk striking a metal bus shelter.

This caused the SUV to spin around multiple times and block the roadway. Emergency crews freed the man from the SUV and rushed him to the hospital. The female passenger in the car only suffered minor scratches. The driver is being investigated for drunken driving.
